What is a Sizzle Statement: How I Talk to AI
In Hollywood, nobody waits to be discovered. They show up with their sizzle reel β ready, always. Most business owners have never thought about theirs. This is how to fix that.
For most of my adult life, I lived in Hollywood. It was a strange reality β living in a place where “Are you in the industry?” was synonymous with “Hello, nice to meet you.”
One thing about these fame-adjacent residents: they are always ready. Ready for their big moment. Ready to demo their greatest hits the second they meet anyone with even the slightest potential to accelerate their career. Long before they take their first acting class, they know the secret weapon: the sizzle reel.
The sizzle reel is Hollywood’s answer to a problem every business owner faces: how do you demonstrate you’re worth working with in under two minutes? Hollywood figured that out decades ago. Business owners? We’re a work in progress.
Here’s what actors understand that most entrepreneurs don’t: your moment can show up anywhere. At a dinner party. In a grocery store line. In a Zoom waiting room. The people who are ready β who can articulate their value without fumbling, without hedging, without defaulting to “I help businesses with⦔ β those are the people who get the callback.

The Problem With “What I Do”
Being ready β on the spot, with a pitch that explains why you’re amazing β is something most businesses struggle with. But we’ve seen it time and time again: business goes to the person with the gift of gab. The person who knows how to say I am great at this. Here’s why you should work with me. Even if they’re less great than the business down the street.
Business owners tend to default to “I help⦔ Or worse β the carefully constructed value proposition that explains what you do with no real nod to the emotional reason someone would choose you over everyone else. That formula made sense when the marketing landscape consisted of three TV networks, Yellow Pages ads, and newsboys yelling “Extra, extra.” When there were three choices, standing out basically meant showing up.
Now? You’re competing with thousands of voices, infinite algorithms, and an audience making decisions in milliseconds. And then there’s AI, which is changing all the rules. Except one.
You have to know how to brag about yourself.

What Is a Sizzle Statement?
When most people sit down to use AI, they type something like: “Write me a LinkedIn post about my business.” And AI β being the eager, generic-content-producing intern that it is β writes something completely indistinguishable from every other post generated by anyone who has ever typed the same thing.
People blame AI for the generic-ness. But it’s not an AI problem. It’s a you don’t know your own sizzle and you’re hoping AI will figure it out for you problem.
AI can only work with what you give it. Give it nothing, and it invents something that could have been written by anyone.
Importantly, “anyone” doesn’t get paid premium dollars. You have to tell AI why you’re worth more.
A Sizzle Statement is not a tagline. It’s not a mission statement. It’s the answer to one question: Why do people pick me?

What’s In a Sizzle Statement?
When I’m speaking to a room full of entrepreneurs, I start with one simple exercise. Turn to your neighbor and say these four things:
My name isβ¦ I’m an expert inβ¦ People love working with me becauseβ¦ And here’s the proof:
It’s harder than it sounds. When we talk about ourselves, we default to bland features. “I do marketing.” “I’m a QuickBooks pro.” Interesting β but not differentiating. And definitely not memorable.
Memorable is the name of the game, whether you’re talking to humans or machines.
That fourth element β the proof β is what separates a Sizzle Statement from a polished-but-forgettable elevator pitch. Testimonials, case studies, a Yelp review, a result you’re proud of. Because AI (and humans) respond better when you can prove you’re the real deal.
Once your Sizzle Statement is ready, paste it directly into your AI queries. Or if it runs long (mine is five pages), save it as a PDF and upload it at the start of each new session. Once AI knows your context, it weaves your sizzle into every output β so everything starts to sound a lot more like you.

How to Write Your Sizzle Statement
Start with why people love you. Yes, it feels strange to brag. But describing how you make people feel is the Hollywood equivalent of look how cool I am in thse clips.
Start With the Feeling, Not the Feature
Use the 4Es β the four psychological decision-drivers that inform every high-stakes buying decision:
Emotion What does your client want to feel? Not what you offer β what state are they trying to reach?
Experience What friction are they living with right now? What operational headache are they trying to overcome? How do you solve that for them?
Education Talk transformation, not transaction. What shifts in someone’s business when they work with you? Don’t define the deliverable. Define the result. The change in trajectory.
Evidence What proves you’re the real deal? Credentials, results, case studies β the receipts.
Build the Rest of Your Brand Source Document
After writing the four essentials, build the rest of your Brand Source Document around them: your tone, your audience, your visual identity, your proof signals, your villains (yes, your villains β the common enemy you and your clients are fighting is as important as knowing what you stand for).
Then give the whole thing to AI. Every single time you start something new.

More Sizzle Statement Tips
Kill the jargon. If your statement needs a glossary, start over. If it’s full of buzzwords, try again. Sizzle is visceral. If someone has to think too hard to understand you, they’ll go somewhere where the content is easier to understand.
Make it sound uniquely you. Read it out loud. Does it sound like something you’d really say? Or does it sound like everyone else? Your Sizzle Statement should have your fingerprints all over it. If people feel “I’ve heard this before,” they’ve already moved on.
Test it in the wild. Say it out loud β to friends, family, strangers. Watch their faces. Do they get you? Do they ask follow-up questions? Do they nod? That’s the reaction you’re after. It’s a reaction AI can approximate but never fully replicate. Which is why testing it on humans is critical.
β€ Try This: Open a blank doc. Set a 10-minute timer. Answer these four questions β fast, no editing:
- Emotion: When a client finishes working with me, they feel ___
- Experience: The headache they had before they found me was ___
- Education: The thing that shifts in their business is ___
- Evidence: One result I’m proud of is ___
This is the raw material for your Sizzle Statement. Don’t polish it while you write. Just get it out of your head and onto the page. AI can help you shape it β but only after you know what you want it to say.

My Sizzle Statement
I call my Sizzle Statement my Operating System. It’s five pages long and contains basically everything AI needs to sound like me, think like me, and come across as approachable and accessible.
But I’m an overachiever by nature β ENFP through and through, so over-explaining is kind of my love language. Yours doesn’t have to be that long.

The Bottom Line
Here’s what most people misunderstand: defining WHAT you do is not enough. People don’t need you to define your category. They understand what a marketer does.
The real work β the work that actually moves people β is defining WHY people choose you. What makes you the obvious emotional choice. What makes someone say oh, she’s exactly who I want to work with.
That’s your sizzle. And until you know it β really know it, in your bones, in your own words β neither you nor your AI will be able to communicate it well.
So yes. Define what you do. But then go further. Define the thing that makes you electric. That’s the statement worth making.
TL;DR – What is a Sizzle Statement?
A Sizzle Statement is your personal positioning tool β the answer to the one question that drives every buying decision: Why do people choose to work with you? Borrowed from Hollywood’s sizzle reel culture, it combines four elements: your name, your area of expertise, the emotional reason clients love working with you, and proof that backs it up. Used consistently in AI prompts, it’s the difference between generic output and content that actually sounds like you. If AI doesn’t know your sizzle, it will invent one β and it won’t be yours.
Key Takeaways
- A Sizzle Statement is not a tagline or mission statement β it’s your emotional differentiator, built on why clients choose you over everyone else.
- Hollywood sizzle reels exist because proximity to opportunity is unpredictable. Business owners face the same reality: your next client, investor, or referral partner could appear anywhere.
- Generic AI output is an input problem, not a capability problem. AI produces what you give it β no sizzle in, no sizzle out.
- The four elements of a strong Sizzle Statement: your full name, your area of expertise, the emotional reason people love working with you, and one piece of evidence (testimonial, case study, or result).
- Your Sizzle Statement becomes your Brand Source Document β the context you feed AI at the start of every session so every output reflects your voice, your value, and your positioning.
- Personal branding for AI is not optional. Algorithms, language models, and search engines are all building a picture of you.
- Your Sizzle Statement is how you control your narrative. The 4Es β Emotion, Experience, Education, Evidence β are the psychological drivers behind every high-stakes buying decision. Build your sizzle around them.
