Why Everyone Is Talking About Claude AI

Claude AI is having a moment. For years, it lived in ChatGPT’s shadow but that dynamic is changing fast.

Claude AI is having a moment, 🤖 Human-like, writing, superior reasoning and a "less sycophantic" persona are making it the preferred AI.

If you follow AI even casually, you’ve probably felt the shift: Claude AI is having a moment. For years, it lived in ChatGPT’s shadow—the solid but distant runner-up. Now, that dynamic is changing fast. A recent Business Insider article even described Claude as the “dethroning of ChatGPT,” pointing to a 240% surge in Claude downloads across app stores.

Part of that rise is fueled by headlines. When outlets reported that Claude refused a Pentagon request to bypass safety guardrails, the AI positioned itself as the “principled” alternative. Around the same time, the company unveiled its powerful Mythos model—then made the unusual decision not to release it publicly, citing concerns about misuse. Instead, they briefed select government and corporate leaders behind closed doors. Moves like these sparked a lot of attention.

But headlines don’t sustain momentum. What’s really driving Claude’s surge is product velocity. Anthropic has been shipping features people really want—and doing it fast. While ChatGPT continues its steady evolution, Claude feels like it’s running a full-on sprint.

So why are everyday users quietly making the switch?

Let’s take a closer look

Claude AI Doesn’t Have a Personality Problem

Before we get into features, let’s talk about something more subtle: personality.

AI is generally marketed as a near-human collaborator—a kind of supercharged intern. But imagine if your intern showed up every day with a completely different personality. One day overly enthusiastic, the next grumpy and scolding. You wouldn’t call that intelligence. You’d call it unstable.

That’s been part of the challenge with ChatGPT. Over the past year, OpenAI has released a steady stream of new models, each with noticeable shifts in tone. Early versions felt like an overeager puppy, praising every idea. More recent versions can feel closer to a strict schoolteacher—quick to moralize, and sometimes overly confident even when incorrect.

Claude, by contrast, is far more consistent. It positions itself as a thinking partner, not a cheerleader. Yes, it still has its quirks—it loves to say, “This is the most important thing you’ve said in this conversation.” But its tone is steady. Its outputs are predictable. You know what you’re getting, even as the product evolves.

And that consistency matters more than people think.

Claude Has a Giant Brain

One of Claude’s most underrated advantages is its context window—the amount of information it can hold and work with during a session.

You can give it a full document, a dataset, a design spec, or an entire folder of materials, and it can reason across all of it at once. It’s not quite like human memory. It won’t “remember” everything simultaneously. But it behaves more like a library: when prompted, it can navigate to the right section and pull relevant information on demand.

Here’s how that shows up in my work:

  • Managing complexity: My sessions can spiral quickly—one idea turns into ten. So I end each session by asking Claude to summarize everything into structured headers with action items. Then I push that summary straight into my Notion project management tool.
  • Grant writing: I create a dedicated Claude Project for each client and connect it to a Google Drive folder with past g,rant applications, RFPs and marketing materials. Claude helps generate compliance matrices, outlines, and summaries, and can even pull in external context like impact reports. It handles the data gathering, so I can focus on strategy and polish.

Claude Remembers Your Rules

Early AI tools were singular. One coversation, gone after the context window closed. Then ChatGPT impressed us by being the first to rememember your frequently mentioned details. Claude joined the memory party a little late, but now it takes memory one step further.

With Claude Projects, you can store persistent context tied to a specific client, workflow, or idea—brand voice, background information, internal rules. Each project acts like a folder of sorts, but carries context across conversations.

Then there are Skills. If Projects are like folders, Skills are like reusable cookbooks. You can tell Claude, “When you do this task, always follow these steps.”

Unlike Projects, Skills can also be shared across users and platforms.

➤ Here’s How I Use These Tools: Every article I write runs through a final checklist: strong meta description, credible data, a quote, clear structure. I built that into a Skill. Now I just drop in the draft, and Claude flags what’s missing—no need to rewrite instructions every time.

A lot of people are still selling AI like it’s a content machine. The far more interesting story is how Claude is becoming an operating layer for thinking, organizing, and building.

Claude Talks Directly to Your Documents

Until recently, working with AI meant constant copy-pasting—or setting up complex automations with tools like Zapier or Make.

Claude Connectors remove that friction. Claude can now interact directly with tools like Gmail, Google Drive, Notion, and Google Calendar. You can pull data in, work with it, and push results back out—without switching tabs.

➤ Here’s How I Use These Tools

  • Client research: I run prospects through my Money Moves Analyzer, then push the results directly into Notion for use in strategy calls. First Claude evaluates, then it updates my client file. No manual transfer or searching on my part.
  • Database building: I built an artist directory by giving Claude access to a Gmail folder with ~200 newsletters. It extracted names, compiled bios, and found websites—turning unstructured emails into a usable database in about 20 minutes.

Claude Builds Things

There’s a lot of hype right now around Claude Code—and for good reason. It can build full applications, websites, and software from a single prompt.

But here’s what gets overlooked: you don’t need Claude Code to build real tools.

The standard version of Claude can already generate functional, deployable web apps. I’ve used it to build interactive tools like a competitive analysis scorer, a wildfire data explorer, and a tourism calculator—each with its own interface and URL.

My workflow is simple: Claude generates the core HTML, then I run it through a design Skill to enforce consistency—typography, colors, layout behavior.

For example, I built an interactive color palette generator in an afternoon by combining stock images with Claude-generated code. No advanced tooling—just clear instructions and iteration.

Worth noting: this isn’t a race Claude is running alone. OpenAI just overhauled Codex this week with similar capabilities — desktop control, parallel agents, persistent memory. The timing wasn’t coincidental. Claude Code has been gaining serious ground in enterprise, and OpenAI responded fast. What you’re watching isn’t just a product feature. It’s two companies racing to become the operating layer for how software gets built. If last year’s big idea was Agentic AI, this year’s will be self-operating computers.

Claude Design

The new kid on the block, Claude Design, is just a few days old and already raising eyebrows. Especially market eyebrows. Figma stock dropped 7% that same day. Claude Design is another tool that has people buzzing, “Will this replace all creative pros?”

Here’s my take. First Claude Design isn’t wholly new. It was already doing prototypes, layouts, presentation decks before it formalized “Design.” What Claude Design adds is a more polished, guided experience for people who aren’t designers. Founders, marketers, project managers who need something visual to communicate an idea, without having to hand it off to a designer and wait.

I’ve been using Claude to prototype every new tool I build for months. Claude Design formalizes those projects into real visual product — with inline editing, brand consistency, and export options that actually fit a normal workflow.

Will it replace creatives? I doubt it. Is it overhyped? A little. But so is a lot of AI. The question is whether will it save you time when you’re crashing a deadline late on a Friday night and you need to get your idea out of your head and into something you can show people early Saturday morning. For that, the answer is yes. This tool definitely has its merits.

➤ Try this Prompt: You are a professional nonprofit communications designer. Using only publicly available information, research [ORG NAME] and create a two-page annual impact report as a single HTML file.

Page 1 should include: a cover with organization name, tagline, and report year; a brief mission statement; and 3–4 headline statistics that capture the organization’s scale or reach. Include, when available, a two-sentence quote from our CEO.

Page 2 should include: a 3–4 item highlights section covering the year’s most significant milestones; a programs or initiatives snapshot (3–4 items); and a brief forward-looking statement or priority for the coming year.

Design guidelines: use a color palette and typography appropriate to the organization’s identity and sector. Make it visually distinctive — not generic. Use only facts you can verify from the organization’s website, press releases, or credible news sources. If data is unavailable, use clearly labeled placeholder text rather than invented figures.

Note: Claude Design is currently only available on paid plans.

The Bottom Line

Claude’s new releases — Code, Skills, Connectors, Design — are moving fast, but the good news is most people won’t need to chase all of them. What does matter is the bigger shift: Claude is exerting its dominance by becoming a system that holds context, follows rules, connects to your tools, and helps you build useful things.

That’s not an “AI can write faster” story. That’s an AI helps me think, work, and execute better story. Claude is becoming a workhorse you can trust to manage your information infrastructure.

I’m not a big believer in the whole “use AI or get left behind” threat. (Left behind what, exactly?) But I do most people still think of AI as content machine, when the far more interesting story is how Claude is becoming an operating layer for organizing, thinking, and building.

Key Takeaways

  • Claude’s rise isn’t just about headlines — product velocity, feature depth, and consistent personality are what’s actually driving everyday users to switch.
  • The context window is Claude’s secret weapon — it can reason across an entire document, folder, or dataset at once, making it far more useful for complex, real-world work.
  • Claude Projects and Skills turn one-off prompts into repeatable systems — store your brand voice, client context, and workflow rules so Claude works from your rules every time.
  • Claude Connectors are quietly replacing third-party integrators — direct links to Gmail, Notion, and Google Drive eliminate the copy-paste workflow most people are still stuck in.
  • Claude isn’t just a writing tool anymore — it can build functional, deployable web apps, and Claude Design is formalizing that into a guided visual product experience.
